This can be a difficult combination. Aquarius is a creature of the mind and Taurus is earthy and sensual. Tauruses experience the world through their senses and intuitions, whereas Aquarians tend to process their experiences intellectually and be detached from their emotions. Although the differences between these two signs can make their interactions interesting, they will usually have very different tastes and lifestyle preferences that make it difficult for them to live together.
Aquarians love change and seek it out, while Tauruses loathe and avoid it. If Aquarius manages to implement major life changes on a whim, Taurus will be distressed, but if Taurus keeps things consistent, Aquarius will grow bored. Stability-loving Taurus will find Aquarian unpredictability stressful, while Aquarius will find Taurean routines dull.
Social issues can be a significant point of contention with this sun sign combination. Tauruses like to spend time at home, in the homes of close friends, or out in nature (unless their ascendants fall in more gregarious signs), whereas the typical Aquarius wants to get out and meet new people in a wider variety of places.
Another problem with this match is that Aquarians are independent and fiercely protective of their freedom. They like to have friends and interests outside their primary relationships. However, the typical Taurus is possessive and may become jealous of an Aquarian’s life outside the relationship and request more time together as a couple. If Aquarius refuses, Taurus may suffer from chronic feelings of insecurity. On the other hand, Aquarius may agree to these terms but feel trapped within the relationship.
Although these two signs are not very compatible, if a couple’s ascendants or moon signs bring their temperaments into better alignment, this can be a positive match in which the two individuals balance each other out nicely (for example, an Aquarian with a Taurus, Cancer, or Capricorn ascendant is a better bet for Taurus, and a Taurus with an Aries, Gemini, Libra, Sagittarius, or Aquarius ascendant is a better prospect for Aquarius). When other aspects of their natal zodiacs are more compatible, these two disparate personalities can have positive effects on one another, with Aquarius encouraging Taurus to try new things and entertain new ideas, and Taurus helping Aquarius cultivate some much-needed stability and pragmatism. However, for this relationship to be successful, Aquarius will need to provide the reassurance and evidence of commitment Taurus requires, and Taurus will have to allow Aquarius time and space for independent activities.
Note: There is more to astrological compatibility than sun signs alone. Other elements in a person’s natal zodiac also play a role. Ascendants (rising signs), moon signs, and other planetary placements and aspects also shape personality and affect compatibility. For example, a Capricorn with Leo rising will be more extroverted than a typical Capricorn, and a Taurus with Aries rising or the moon in Sagittarius will be more compatible with Sagittarius than a typical Taurus.
