These two signs are often drawn together, yet they are not particularly compatible unless other elements in their natal zodiacs bring their temperaments into better alignment. Pisces tends to be sensitive and Sagittarius is quite the opposite. Tactless Sagittarius can inflict deep wounds without meaning to, and reactive Pisces may become deceptive, evasive, or escapist if the relationship sours. Sagittarians tend to address problems in a forthright way even when tact is called for, whereas Pisceans will dissemble to keep the peace, so their communication styles are incompatible. These two signs also tend to look for different things in a romantic partner. Pisces wants a stable anchor, a fantasy lover, or someone to rescue or be rescued by, while Sagittarius wants a buddy with whom to share adventures.
Sagittarius and Pisces tend to have a destabilizing effect on one another. Sagittarius is likely to drag Pisces out into a whirlwind of relentless socializing and other activity that leaves the latter feeling drained and emotionally ravaged, or Pisces may pull Sagittarius into a solitary world of emotional chaos. These two can also have difficulty providing the support each needs in times of stress. Pisces requires reassurance, stability, and gentle treatment when under pressure, but Sagittarius craves action and change in times of adversity (and prefers a partner who can grant the freedom to pursue them).
Sagittarius and Pisces can also bring out the worst in each other due to the few traits they share. Both are dreamers and sensation seekers who try to cast off life’s limitations. Together, they may encourage one another’s tendencies toward excessive spending, eating, substance abuse, or risking everything on grandiose dreams.
On the plus side, these two individuals do have some traits that appeal to each another. Sagittarius is drawn to the mysterious, intriguing Pisces mind, while Pisces can be uplifted by Sagittarius’s vigorous energy, confidence, and sunny optimism. Both tend to be generous, open-minded, and altruistic, and both have a desire to do something positive in the world to help humanity, animals, or the environment, so they may bond over the common ground of volunteer work or participation in sociopolitical causes. However, although these two may be powerfully attracted to one another and find each other’s minds fascinating, they will probably have difficulty living together unless other elements in their natal zodiacs are more harmonious and stabilizing.
Note: There is more to astrological compatibility than sun signs alone. Other elements in a person’s natal zodiac also play a role. Ascendants (rising signs), moon signs, and other planetary placements and aspects also shape personality and affect compatibility. For example, a Capricorn with Leo rising will be more extroverted than a typical Capricorn, and a Taurus with Aries rising or the moon in Sagittarius will be more compatible with Sagittarius than a typical Taurus.
