Aries and Libra are often drawn together by mutual attraction, but Libra’s desire to avoid emotional conflict is at odds with Arian directness and combativeness. As a result, Aries confronts and provokes while Libra avoids and escapes, leading to a communication breakdown.
The primary source of conflict between these two signs is that Libra craves peace and harmony while Aries wants passion and excitement. Libra seeks smooth social interactions, while Aries needs to stir things up to keep them interesting. Libra tends to be tolerant, easy going, and mellow (to the point of laziness in some cases), whereas Aries is action-oriented, decisive, and anything but calm. Libra is open-minded and can see both sides of an issue, while Aries takes sides and then fiercely defends a particular point of view.
Libra’s tendency to agonize over decisions will be particularly irritating for Aries, who makes decisions quickly and easily. This conflict of styles can lead to a mutual lack of respect because Aries values strength, dominance, and assertiveness, while Libra appreciates rationality and fair-mindedness. In a worst-case scenario, Aries will view Libra as weak and wishy-washy, and Libra will find Aries domineering, abrasive, and egotistical. On the other hand, in some cases these two can balance one another out nicely.
In a best-case scenario, laid-back Libra will have a beneficial calming effect on Aries, while Aries makes decisions for the couple, absolving Libra of this unpleasant responsibility. Ideally, Aries will learn how to adopt a calmer, more thoughtful approach to life from Libra, and Libra will grow more assertive as a result of spending time with Aries, so that both can develop more well-balanced temperaments.
Despite their many differences, there is some common ground to unite these two signs. Aries and Libra both tend to be extroverted, so they are likely to enjoy an active social life together. Also, Aries is typically physical and active, and Libra graceful and athletic, so sports and other physical pursuits may form the basis of shared interests for this pair.
Note: There is more to astrological compatibility than sun signs alone. Other elements in a person’s natal zodiac also play a role. Ascendants (rising signs), moon signs, and other planetary placements and aspects also shape personality and affect compatibility. For example, a Capricorn with Leo rising will be more extroverted than a typical Capricorn, and a Taurus with Aries rising or the moon in Sagittarius will be more compatible with Sagittarius than a typical Taurus.
