Love, Marriage, and Compatibility for Libra

By Shaya Weaver

Traditional astrologers believe that Libras are most compatible with Gemini, Leo, Libra, Sagittarius, and Aquarius, and least compatible with Aries, Cancer, Capricorn, and Pisces, but what do the actual marriage and divorce statistics say?

Mathematician Gunter Sachs (1998) conducted a large-scale study of sun signs, encompassing nearly one million people in Switzerland, which found statistically significant results on a number of measures including marriage and divorce. Castille (2000) conducted a similar study in France using marriage statistics collected between 1976 and 1997, which included more than six million marriages. Findings from these studies are summarized below.

Marriage: Libra Men

The Sachs Study

In accordance with traditional astrological beliefs, Sachs found that two Libras often make a good match, with higher-than-average rates of marriage and lower-than-average rates of divorce. Libras tend to avoid conflict at all costs, so serious fights between two Libras are unlikely, and they are likely to share attitudes and lifestyle preferences, which increases their compatibility.

As would be expected, Libra men divorce Aries women more frequently than those of any other sign. Aries deals with issues by tackling them head on, whereas Libra detests arguments, so these two may develop a pattern in which Aries picks fights and Libra gives in or retreats, resulting in a communication breakdown and mutual resentment.

The following is an overall ranking from most common to least common marriages with Libra men (* indicates that the result is statistically significant – in other words, the effect was too large to attribute to random chance):

  1. Libra*
  2. Leo
  3. Gemini
  4. Cancer
  5. Sagittarius
  6. Capricorn
  7. Virgo
  8. Aquarius
  9. Taurus
  10. Pisces (the marriage rate was the same for Pisces and Aries)
  11. Aries
  12. Scorpio

The Castille Study

Castille also found that Libra men are most likely to marry Libra women. The following is an overall ranking from most common to least common marriages with Libra men (* indicates that the result is statistically significant):

  1. Libra*
  2. Virgo
  3. Leo
  4. Sagittarius
  5. Scorpio
  6. Pisces
  7. Aries
  8. Taurus
  9. Capricorn
  10. Aquarius
  11. Gemini
  12. Cancer

Marriage: Libra Women

Sachs Study

Sachs found that Libra women are most likely to marry Taurus and Libra men and least likely to divorce Libra men, but they have an above-average divorce rate with Leos. Although Leo is theoretically a compatible sign for Libra, Libra’s flirtatiousness and Leo’s need to be the center of attention may not always mix well in a romantic relationship.

The following is an overall ranking from most common to least common marriages with Libra women (* indicates that the result is statistically significant):

  1. Taurus*
  2. Libra*
  3. Gemini
  4. Virgo
  5. Scorpio
  6. Leo
  7. Aries
  8. Aquarius
  9. Sagittarius
  10. Capricorn
  11. Cancer
  12. Pisces*

There is a good foundation for the Libra-Taurus match. Although there are some differences between the two signs, both are laid back and not inclined toward arguing, and they share a love of domestic harmony and a need for comfortable and beautiful surroundings. Libra women will appreciate Taurean strength and decisiveness, while Tauruses value Libran refinement and class. Also, accommodating Libras are less likely to provoke the infamous Taurean stubbornness.

Seeing Pisces at the bottom of the Libra women’s marriage list is unsurprising because Pisces tends toward extremes and emotional intensity while Libra craves balance and calm.

Castille Study

Castille found that Libra women in France most often marry Libra men, and that the least-frequent marriage partners for Libra women are Pisces and Cancer men. The following is an overall ranking from most common to least common marriage partners for Libra women (* indicates that the result is statistically significant):

  1. Libra*
  2. Sagittarius
  3. Leo
  4. Scorpio
  5. Virgo
  6. Gemini
  7. Aries
  8. Taurus
  9. Aquarius
  10. Capricorn
  11. Pisces*
  12. Cancer*

Seeing Pisces and Cancer at the bottom of the list is an expected finding because these signs are considered to be incompatible with Libra. Both tend to be very sensitive, so fights may occur in response to minor or imagined slights, and Libras abhor conflict and drama.  Cancers, in particular, like to force emotional issues out into the open to clear the air, whereas Libras prefer to avoid emotionally charged conversations, so Cancer-Libra pairings can develop the same difficult patterns that arise in Aries-Libra pairings. Also, Libras tend to be more rational than emotional, so they have difficulty understanding partners who need a lot of reassurance.

The Best Match for Libra

The best match for Libras of either gender appears to be another Libra, whereas Aries may be a less compatible match for Libra men and Cancer and Pisces for Libra women. However, Libras who find themselves romantically entangled with one of the less compatible signs should not despair. Plenty of relationships and marriages between supposedly incompatible signs have lasted.

It’s important to keep in mind that these are statistical tendencies; this doesn’t mean that every romance between incompatible signs is doomed. For example, out of 6,498,320 marriages encompassing all possible sign combinations in the Castille study, there were 922 more marriages between Libra women and Libra men than would be expected if sun signs had no effect, whereas between Libra women and Cancer men, there were 465 fewer marriages than would be expected if pairings were random. However, there still were many marriages between the supposedly least compatible signs.

Astrology is complex, and there is more to take into account than just sun signs. Two people with incompatible sun signs may have highly compatible rising signs or moon signs that can make the difference between a bad match and a good match with a bit of an “edge” that keeps things interesting.

*The methodology of the Sachs study has been criticized and it remains controversial. I have found no critiques of the Castille study thus far.

by not trying to win either over. Taurus women won’t show you their cards. so don’t go looking for the signs. they won’t be there. But her feelings are intense, and she can be extremely jealous. you just won’t know it… so…don’t try.

The hardest thing you can ever think of is starting over. There are three things (1) let go (2) move on (3) start all over. The first two are mere discission but the last is discission back with action .in starting all over there are so many things one will pass throw which are not pleasant and are frustrating except with high look. Its not easy may God help us to wake again

Hi, Im not an expert but as a Libra woman she’s going to start playing with your emotions and try to find out who you truly are and see if she can balance you out. So, my best advice is to also try and figure her out and making her laugh will help.

Honestly, I’m libra female whom is with my cap man. We are a strong couple in the eyes of alll of our friends. I think you would also have to take into account your sun and moon signs as they are also big indicators to their personality. His sun and moon is a sag. Born literally on the cusp of the two. So personally i think if you love this person dearly and can imagine a life with this person and make sure you both speak to each other then of course it could work well

i’m a libra woman married to a Sag man for 14 years. It says we’re compatible, but it does not work! Sag are too temperamental and always too stubborn to admit they are wrong. Libra are too unproblematic, doesn’t hold other person responsible, will most likely sweep any problems under the wrong. it doesn’t work in the end unless both parties are willing to compromise.

I’m a Gemini F married to a Libra M. We’ve been together 20 years. Recently he tells me he cheated with a whore. Bottom of the barrel in my eyes. My take libras don’t think much. Get tired of what they have. Have control issues, addiction issues, have no problem lying, and no common sense. He can be good I know it. So I wait or he continues to ruin a good thing. Our signs say we are compatible.

I am a libra women dated a Leo man, it didn’t last long due to other stupid reasons. I wasn’t in the place to have a long relationship, but all in all great people, very flirty and have the tendency to like many attractive people… So I’m my experience I have fallen hard for libra men, Gemini men, sag men. My worst experience was the sag because he was funny but way to upfront, rude, and honest… like too much for me. Signs that are always attracted to libra are Virgos, no doubt.

I’m a libra woman engaged to a cancer man. We bump heads alot but I love him so much and he is good to me. I think once you learn to truly understand someone and how they operate things can work out fine. Communication is a big plus in any relationship. Sometimes communicating is difficult between certain signs but you have to fight to keep it first. Honesty, respect, loyalty all of these things equal love.

I’m a Virgo and I have always been the center of attention unless I didn’t want to be. My Libra husband says all I am interested in is romance and sex. He gets nervous because I like to experiment . I’m messy and I daydream a lot. My friends say I’m sweet, flexible and charming rather than uptight but I guess I’m innocent like a Virgo and protective. He dumped a Leo for me and I wasn’t sure I wanted to marry him even though I was fell in love hard and loved his romancing. So being a raven haired actress on stage I don’t think I fall into the Virgo stereotype. He tries to get me to be more disciplined, but he had been in Libra relationships and even though he got along with them, he said he was bored and they weren’t his dream girl . He said I was his dream girl, but he is very bossy critical.

Yes, run as fast as you can :). It can work, but man is it a lot of work. I know I’m in that relationship for more than 12 years. The problem with Capricorn women is that they tend to compare you a lot with others and almost everyone is better in their eyes. They also change after they get married or have your children, but that probably happens to every womebln.

Be genuine, open and honest about your feelings (and everything else in your life). I am a Capricorn woman, in love with a Libra man. Libras are known to only say what the other person wants to hear in order to keep the peace, but Capricorns are the opposite. They will say things as they are, and need their partners to do the same. A Capricorn woman might seem cool on the outside, but get a spot in her heart, and you will remain there for the rest of your life, providing you can be open and honest with her from beginning to end. She will support you in being the best YOU you’ve ever been, and will literally take you places no other woman can. Love her, emotionally and physically, and you will have the world at your fingertips. Oh, and she has a dirty sense of humor that she will start to show only if and when she is totally comfortable with you and can see a future with you. And, no, we don’t compare you with others. But we will push for ourselves and our partners to always be the best that we can be. A Capricorn woman at the side of a Libra man can make you a power couple. There are no limits to this relationship.
