This can be a difficult combination. Aquarians are more cerebral than physical, while Leos are very emotionally expressive and physically demonstrative. Leos need frequent assurances of love and attraction that Aquarians are often lax in giving. As a result, Leo may end up feeling unloved in this pairing, while Aquarius finds Leo overly needy.
These two also tend to differ politically and in terms of preferred lifestyles, with Leos typically being more conventional and Aquarians gravitating toward unusual political views and lifestyle choices. To make matters worse, Leos want the lion’s share of their partners’ attention, while Aquarians tend to divide their time equally among all those in their lives. Loyal Leos need special treatment to feel secure in a relationship, but fair-minded Aquarians tend to treat everyone they like similarly, which can create problems in a romantic relationship.
Another point of contention between these two signs is that Leos are appearance-conscious, while typical Aquarians have little interest in surface things. Aquarians are concerned with ideas and philosophies, so Leo’s interest in clothing, social status, and glamorous events and people will seem shallow to Aquarius, while many Aquarian pursuits (and friends) will seem eccentric or even crazy to Leo.
Aquarius wants lots of personal freedom and will probably find Leo too possessive and demanding, and Leo may find Aquarius cold and aloof. However, if other elements in their natal zodiacs are more compatible, this can be interesting and intellectually stimulating match, and these two individuals may have positive effects on one another. Leos can benefit from cultivating some Aquarian detachment to reduce their sensitivity to criticism, and they will expand their horizons by adopting a more open-minded Aquarian approach to life. Leos, in turn, can act as stabilizing forces for Aquarians, who are so open to new ideas that they may ruin their lives in the service of crackpot theories and ideologies (or even dangerous people in extreme cases).
Note: There is more to astrological compatibility than sun signs alone. Other elements in a person’s natal zodiac also play a role. Ascendants (rising signs), moon signs, and other planetary placements and aspects also shape personality and affect compatibility. For example, a Capricorn with Leo rising will be more extroverted than a typical Capricorn, and a Taurus with Aries rising or the moon in Sagittarius will be more compatible with Sagittarius than a typical Taurus.
