This nude beach, located adjacent to the University of British Columbia, has a relaxed, friendly atmosphere and a strong sense of community among the regulars. This is not the sort of beach where people come to show off the results of their plastic surgery and steroid abuse. Bodies of all types and sizes are welcome. Clothing is optional – you can wear as much or as little as you want.
Wreck is a nice sunbathing and swimming beach, with a smooth, sandy approach to the water. During the summer months there are always plenty of people selling food and drinks, and local musicians often gather to play.
Most people access Wreck Beach via a long flight of stairs that run downhill through the woods but you can also get there by walking along a stretch of wild beach when the tide is out or via rugged forest trails.
Once you reach the main beach, you can stay in the central area near the base of the stairs where a laid back party atmosphere often prevails during the hotter months or head to the quieter stretches of beach off to the right. There are washrooms at the top and bottom of the access stairs (they’re pit toilets, but very clean and well maintained).
