The Sunshine Coast, just North of Vancouver, is a 180 kilometer stretch between Langdale and Lund, encompassing a number of small coastal communities. It’s a beautiful area, and a great place for anyone who loves outdoor activities or wants to relax in a peaceful, natural environment.
Sunshine Coast outdoor activities include kayaking, canoeing, sailing, stand-up paddleboarding, diving, ocean swimming, golfing, rock climbing, snow sports in the winter (snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, and sledding), fishing, horseback riding, biking, hiking, or simply walking along the beach. There are also spas and yoga centers, great places to eat, and plenty of arts and culture options (music events, galleries, and museums).
A number of kayak rental places in the area offer Twilight Phosphorescence Tours – you leave at sunset to kayak through waters alight with glowing algae like stars in a dark sky. Daytime kayaking offers plenty of fantastic wildlife spotting opportunities as well. Groups of seals came to check out our boat, providing some wonderful photo opportunities.
One of many places worth seeing on the Sunshine Coast is the Skookumchuck Narrows, the world’s second-fastest rapids.
A beautiful forest trail through Skookumchuck Narrows Provincial Park gives way to gorgeous ocean views, complete with spectacular roiling currents.
